Now, we´ve had one week at winterschool and we´ll have one more - but that´s not enough! Winterschool is great and the teachers are also so nice. In the first part of winterschool we learned things about the teachers and they learned things about us. Then we got to know one another, the teachers learned about our names and cour characters. The good thing in the lessons is that we can sometimes also choose what we want to learn because in the first two lessons we do something in the book and in the next two lessons we have "free time". In this time we play games or we can say what we want to do. So we also learned about USA and UK and so on. The last two lessons are also super: in these lessons we do things for the presantation. The poster lessons and the show lessons are lots of fun! In the show lessons we play a funny sketch and there are all our ideas in it. It is also very good that our groups are so small, because in this way we can learn better. All in all winterschool is lots of fun and we also learn many things. I think the presantation will be great and it will be very sad when the English teachers go home! (Anna Puhr, 4.B) |
The main thing in winterschool is to speak a lot of English, to learn to use the language. Winterschool lessons are more relaxing. We play a lot of games, where you have to speak a lot and so you are practising all the time. I think it´s easier to learn English in winterschool lessons than in normal lessons. You will notice the difference. Every day we had six lessons. In the first four lessons we had Teresa and Jo alternately. In the fifth lesson, we worked on our projrcts. We were allowed to choose what we were going to do. For example you could make a newspaper or make a presentation with a poster. With some friends I made a film about our winterschool. In this film we interviewed some colleagues and our teachers, Teresa and Jo. In the sixth lesson we worked on our sketches/concerts. There we were also allowed to decide what we were going to do. You could do a play, a talkshow ... whatever you wanted! On wednesday, tomorrow, we are going to have our show. That means that every group is going to present their projects and sketches. We invited our parents and some friends to come and look what we´ve done in the two weeks. In my opinion it was a great experience. And I think I am not the only who thinks like this. Our winterschool started on Monday the 30th of February and it ends on Friday the 10th of February. The first time we met our new teachers was a new experience for us because we had to speak English only. We had to explain many words and that wasn´t easy. In our normal English lessons we also speak English but not so much as in winterschool lessons. But on that day we got to know one another very quickly and we spoke a lot immediately. Our winterschool teachers are very nice and funny and you can learn lots of new words. What is quite important is that you have to listen carefully to them because some of them have got accents and so you can learn much too. But after a short time it´s easier to understand them. And now I´ll try to introduce them a little bit: Sian is a very nice person and very imaginative and you can talk with her about everything. Nobody is shy to speak in her lesson because it doesn´t matter if you say something wrong. Most time it is very funny. The projects are intersting too, for instance the magazines, the newly designed parfumes, the newly designed fashion. John is also a nice person and very talkative. Sometimes we call him Jonny-Boy. He likes it when we choose new words or when we have got good ideas. And in his lesson we also talk very, very much and learn many new words. With John we make our sketches. He is very helpful and gives us the advice to create the sketches by ourselves. You can have a lot of fun with them and we are glad to have them as our teachers. (Ina Mayer) |
I think winterschool is a good chance to explore the different English languages. One of our teachers is from New Zealand and one of them is from England. This is a good change. We have to make presentations and act out sketches and we have lots of fun during the preparation. Every second lesson we have a different teacher and we do different exercices. Some lessons are very boring and some lessons are really crazy but generally I like winterschool. (Nathalya Bilyayeva & Julia Wasacs) |
Winterschool is two weekes of learning how to speak English. It takes place in different countries. At our school it is organized for the forth forms. English teachers come from Great Britain to Austria and for two weeks the students at our school have six English lessons a day. This teaching is very different from a normal school day. There is really no pressure and so students are more open to learn because they feel more comfortable. Most of the students love this kind of teaching. In addition, the global language is taught well by the teachers because English is their mother tongue. At the beginning the students get an "English in Action" workbook with pictures of the topics. The teachers cannot speak German, so the students must speak English to be understood. Students learn and use words and phrases every day. Two weeks sounds a short time, but students´ English becomes more fluent and their parents see the difference at the winterschool-show where the students present their projects. This is at the end of the course. I am sorry that winterschool will soon be over. Class 4e likes their teachers Anthony and Catherine and they like winterschool. (Marie Panholzer, 4.E) |
Winterschool is really super. We do a lot of interesting work with David and Gabriel who are our English teachers. David comes from London and with him we make our play. Gabriel comes from Canada and with him we are working for the projects. We do also a lot with our workbook. We are all excited because of the concert. Our English is getting better every single day and we enjoy speaking this foreign language. One day in the first week we showed our teachers Eisenstadt. They liked the big tour a lot and we liked it too. All in all the two weeks in English are very interesting and helpful. We learn a lot of new things but we also have a lot of fun. That´s a great experience and we all would like to do a course again. (Anna Jungmayr, 4.B) |
What is winterschool? Well, winterschool is an organisation of Native Speaker from England. In winterschool you must only speak English. If you are wishing to, you can learn very much. You can learn how to form questions about how to describe people but this is not all. In these two weeks you are in a small group in a class and have two teachers who are Native Speakers. If you think this is the same as your normal English class, then you are wrong. They try to make English more attractive to the pupils. They check every pupil to see how good his English is. I can recommend winterschool because I think it helped me a lot. (Michael Scholz, 4.D) |
